Risk Calculators

We have developed algorithms to obtain models that accurately predict certain health risks.

Post Operative Complications Calculator

This calculator employs a predictive model trained over 50,000 patients admitted to the University of Florida Health between 2000 and 2010, and generates a risk score for developing zero, one, two, and three or more complications after having a major surgery. The model uses various features such as patient demographics, Charlson comorbidity scoring system, insurance and surgery types to perform the risk estimation.

Cardiovascular Death Risk Calculator

This calculator employs a predictive model trained over 16,655 elderly patients (age 65 or older) admitted to the University of Florida Health between 2000 and 2010. Using a competing risk model we derived a “CV Death Risk” score to calculate risk for cardiovascular-specific mortality at hospital discharge. In addition to occurrence of kidney disease (end-stage renal disease, chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI) without CKD, AKI with CKD), each model was adjusted for age, gender, African-American ethnicity, Charlson comorbidity score, surgery type and emergent surgery status, admission hemoglobin levels, and frailty score.

ESRD Risk Calculator

This calculator employs a predictive model trained over 16,655 elderly patients (age 65 or older) admitted to the University of Florida Health between 2000 and 2010. Using a competing risk model we derived an “ESRD Risk” score to calculate risk for progression to ESRD at hospital discharge. In addition to occurrence of kidney disease (end-stage renal disease, chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI) without CKD, AKI with CKD), each model was adjusted for age, gender, African-American ethnicity, Charlson comorbidity score, surgery type and emergent surgery status, admission hemoglobin levels, and frailty score.
